RIP Denise Johnson

She wasn’t a household name, but you may well have heard her voice. Denise, who sang with Primal Scream, New Order, Electronic and A Certain Ratio among others died on Monday. Johnny Marr said she gold-plated any song she sang on, and I can’t think of any higher complement. Gone far to early at 56.

Love watching and listening to her singing don't fight it feel it, she really enjoyed herself on stage

Loved her voice on Free by Primal Scream, had no idea she had also featured on so many other works!

No age at all to go, either.

Indeed a great voice. I had a brief Twitter chat with her a few months ago when she'd released her excellent True Faith cover, she seemed genuinely pleased that people were taking an interest in her as a singer in her own right.

Seems the papers (some of 'em) have got it wrong. She was born in Manchester on the 31st August 1966 (that makes her 53).

Or I've got it wrong. We'll see. Either way, low or mid 50s or even high 50s is sad.
Hanging on to her inhaler apparently.
