Orson - Bright Idea

Flicking through my MP3s the other night on the stereo, found an Orson track and then ended up playing most fo the Bright Idea album tracks. Not a duff track on the album from one end to the other.

I read that Alex Lifeson was unhappy with this, as he was dropped back in the final mix... however, it remains the most complete Rush album in terms of playing and composition and remains fresh and relevant even today, IMHO.

I had to drive 165 miles south on Sunday and back home on Monday so selected 7 or 8 CDs to put in the car. They're all back in the house now except two - The Division Bell by Pink Floyd and The Film Music of Arthur Bliss - after I decided they've both been sadly neglected over the years.

Used to listen to this in the early 2000's on the school bus, Sony Walkman fitted perfectly in my school blazer. Then the iPod became affordable for a 14 year old.

I was casually scanning Youtube yesterday and found some videos (programmes, rather than music videos) on early 'New Romantic' stuff.

I know that it's generally regarded as pretentious sh*te these days (and some, of course, will disagree as with any genre), but there was a lot of early stuff from Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Soft Cell and numerous other bands and I'd forgotten how good and original they were before they all went MOR Pop-y.

Division Bell is a very strong and complete PF album. So much better than the drivel on Endless River.

Endless River was more of a compilation of outtakes rather than a 'proper' album and actually has some nice stuff on it (and one stinker). Crap cover design though!

All my music worth listening to is on MP3 so nothing gets neglected. I went through every CD I owned and saved all the decent tracks to my PC when I got my first car with a USB port.

What surprised me was that there was less correlation between how well I rated an album and how many tracks I selected than one might think.

Some albums I loved because of one or two standout tracks.
