Grew up with their songs, seemed to be ABBA, The Cars, 10cc, ELO or War Of The Worlds on rotation on the “music centre” when I was a kid.

Perfectly crafted pop songs. Their later stuff was very good. Eagle is bloody fab.

A great pop band... if not the greatest. Whilst The Beatles went on the challenge and break 'the rules' of what a pop band could do and revolutionize music while doing so, ABBA just remained perfect pop, IMHO.

Genuinely classic, catchy melodies and perfect production.

I was always put off The Day Before You Came as my mother used to play it non-stop!

She once said to me, "You should play that, it would sound great."

I said, "It wouldn't, I haven't got anything that goes aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh ..."

Abba, it seemed to me, just produced pure honest to goodness pop music with no pretensions to be anything else. And there's nothing wrong with that, as dong as it's done really well. And they did it perfectly.

And I agree that Eagle is a fantastic song. (Although I also like their silly ones such as When I Kissed The Teacher.)

Although ‘When I kissed the teacher’ was about a girl kissing a bloke teacher it always reminds of my English teacher (lady) although I never got to kiss her, sadly.
