RIP. I can vividly remember Rollermania back in the early 1970s and 2 of my female cousins being almost hysterical about them. I confess I still enjoy their version of Bye Bye Baby.

Was lucky enough to spend some time chatting to Les when my band supported him, must be going on ten years ago no. Genuine down to earth approachable guy, which I found crazy given the levels of success he achieved in the 70’s. Very sad news.

If my memory serves me right, despite all their success, they never made any money due to being conned. I also seem to remember some legal wranglings between management and band members falling out

I can vividly remember the hype at the time and sad to hear he has passed away do young.

Yep, correct. It was rife in the 70’s with young bands getting done over. I had a chat with another star from the 70’s few years back, and he said often their agents/record companies would thrust paperwork under their nose to sign just before they were about to head out on stage (or the example he gave me was top of the pops!). They were so young, didn’t think anything of it and before you know it you’ve signed away the rights to merchandising etc.

Bay City Rollers settled in court in 2016, each member got £70K. A fraction of what was owed but there was a risk that had it gone to trial they would have got nothing and been lumped with a massive legal bill.

I seem to recall a fairly recent TV documentary where Les was trying to figure out where all the money had gone, which was quite interesting I think.

Success does not equal talent though and it's dreadful that they even made more than a fiver from the "musical garbage" they churned out

I think that's a bit harsh when compared to todays chart 'music' output.

Only if you think that is worth more than a fiver.

Probably no worse than Bros, Westloife or No Direction, though.
