Here’s something to think about.

Pick your fantasy band within the following parameters - my pick noted

Lead Singer/ Front man - Freddie Mercury
Lead Guitar - Eric Clapton
Rhythm/2nd Guitar. Jimmy Page
Bass John Entwistle
Keyboards - Rick Wakeman
Other instrumentalist (optional) - Clarance Clemons
Drums Neil Peart

Only one artist from a band

Ian Kilmister, from Hawkwind on bass and vocals.
Eddie Clarke from Fastway on guitar.
Phillthy Taylor from Waysted on drums.

I think that combination would work...

Whilst this is a great thing to debate, this band of yours would be so bad!

That would be good. They could name their band after a Hawkwind song that Ian wrote and do a version of the song, and have an album of the same name. They'd do really well smile

Actually probably fair! A case where together it wouldn't work in reality. I did say fantasy band!

No actually, at the risk of overthinking this far more than it really hypothetically warrants, I’ve changed my mind! I think your two guitarists would work very well and provided they could allow for the flamboyance of the singer and drummer, it could make something rather good if they went in the style of an over the top prog rock / rock opera sort of thing along the lines of Jesus of Suburbia or Knights of Cydonia.

With Freddie and Rick it would certainly be over the top!

It's a great idea for a discussion, BVD!

I think it needs................I dunno..............clarity?

For example, my fantasy blues line-up would look like this:-

Lead Guitar : Christone "Kingfish" Langham
Rhythm Guitar : Danny Kirwan
Bass Guitar : John Paul Jones
Drums : Pete Ward
Vocals : Paul Rodgers

Which would look nothing like my fantasy line-up for rock:-

Lead Guitar : Guthrie Govan
Rhythm Guitar : Dave Mustaine
Bass Guitar : Cliff Burton
Drums : Nick Menza
Vocals : Robert Plant

You have a point - maybe we could add that you state what genre the band would play

John Baldwin from The Deltas on bass.
James Page from Carter-Lewis and the Southerners on guitar.
John Bonham from Terry Webb and the Spiders on drums.
Bobby Plant from Crawling King Snakes on vocals.

Probably go down like a lead balloon though.

WRT clever! - no lead balloon, if Carlsburg did Rock and Roll bands, this would be it!

How about a fantasy Jazz quintet? Something like:-

Vox : Sarah Vaughan
Guitar : Joe Pass
Keys : Oscar Peterson
Drums : Buddy Rich
Bass : Jaco Pastorius

Mmmmmmmm. Nice!

Difficult, you can't just pick the best guys and assume it'd work.

Would Les Claypool work, sonically, with Mike Portnoy? Or Dimebag?

Singer - Chris Cornell
Lead Guitar - John Fruiscante
Bass - Victor Wooten
Drums - Stewart Copeland

I'd probably listen to that.

I'd also add that Them Crooked Vultures is about as perfect a 'supergroup' as I could ever imagine. Wish they'd done a 2nd album. Or I'd had a chance to see them live
