Must admit if there’s one thing this album isn’t, to me anyway, is ‘another plodder’. It distils the best bits of the Maiden sound, adds a dash of creativity and added reflection, a sprinkle of searing leads and quality dual/triple riffage, to make a fabulous metal dish. I accept it’s all subjective ofc and completely respect your view.
Stepping back, I think Maiden are an absolutely stellar band who are close to their very best, 40 years on, which is insane. Ferociously hard-working, hugely loyal to their fan base, egos completely under control and a group who, over their career, have produced many, many genre-leading classics. It’s trite to say it, but they make me proud to be British. Pretty much everyone in the metal world has huge respect for them (well, apart from that donkey-brain Sharon Osbourne) and for good reason.
Was even listening to “Mission from ‘Arry” last night - so funny. They’ve even put their Early Years documentary on YouTube for free and it’s well worth another watch.
This album has made me revisit all their old stuff again too and what a pleasure it’s been. Up the Irons!

Apt user name there Aces High
Iron Maiden have upload each album song on Youtube (which is where I have been listening it to) and have ordered a cv copy to be delivered to may dad (who is also a big Maiden fan). I am hoping my local Virgin Megastore has the cd in..... (no based in the UK).
I think the album will grow on me but I do like "The Writing is on the Wall".
Up the Irons.

I've listened to it through a couple of times whilst out and about and enjoyed it. I'm also looking forward to seeing them next year - hopefully!
As I can't put it any better and completely agree

Actually on disc 2 right now and listening through for a second time. It's actually very enjoyable album which reminds me in parts of the Fear of the Dark album.
It's one of those slow burner albums that the more you listen to it, the more you pick out and like. I found this with A Matter of Life and Death. First time I heard it, it wasn't as catchy or obvious as Dance of Death but actually, some of the songs stand up really well 15 years later.
It's a thumbs up from me! I've been a fan of Maiden for nearly 30 years and I'm not 40 yet so they're my childhood favourite band. Not been disappointed in anything they've done despite having their dips.
Also, liking the new Samurai Eddie, looks double hard! haha

On my 3rd listening to the album now and man has it grown on me. I prefer the longer songs with the melodic back and forth between guitar solos and rhythm sections.
Clearly they have adjusted to take into account Bruce's voice (which is still epic), but man what a classic album.
Until this morning, I hadn't realised how much their song "The Red and the Black" has influenced my preference for their longer songs (Rime of the Ancient Mariner is one of their defining songs). Nicko's drumming on "The Red and the Black" is incredible, and to be fair, his drumming is outstanding on pretty much all songs, his drums add to the song and are not just a tick the box exercise.
Hopefully I will get to see them paly in Dubai in the next couple of years.

When a band brings out an album of the quality of the number of the beast anything they do from thereon in is likely to be inferior.A band I used to love, but they have done nothing but bore me for the last thirty years.
Nothing from the new album would get on the aforementioned album
I've finally had a listen to Senjutsu and did struggle with it.
That said, this was the same with the Book of Souls, which I really rather like now.
I think I'll pick it back up in a few months.
While we are on the subject and for the fans on here, how about ranking your top 5 Maiden Albums, along with your fave track off said album. Try and keep it to five albums and one song (I know it would be very easy to make the list silly long, but please try and resist the urge). Plus an honourable mention.
Mine are (and could change daily)
1, Powerslave - Rhyme of the ancient Mariner
2, Beast - Hallowed be thy name
3, Somewhere in time - Stranger in a strange land
4, Iron Maiden - Transylvania
5, Seventh son - The evil that men do
Honourable mention - A matter of life and death - These colours don't run.

Powerslave - The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (similar to your first choice
)Brave New World - The Wicker Man
Somewhere in Time - Wasted Years
Number of the Beast - The Prisoner
Dance of Death - Paschendale
No particular order
What a fantastic idea. Not easy but here goes and in no order:
Number of the Beast - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera (only narrowly beating Prowler, a personal favourite. But the Phantom middle section is peerless)
Powerslave - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Piece of Mind - Where Eagles Dare
Killers - Prodigal Son
Honourable mention: The entirety of Live After Death - that album and the accompanying videos/dvds were such a seminal part of my teens
Also (sorry, just love talking about Maiden) would strongly, strongly urge fans of the older catalogue to watch their 2005 Live in Gothenburg concert on YouTube. The best set list ever and an insanely great live performance.

Damn that is a hard list to make!!!
Number of the Beast - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Piece of Mind - The Trooper
Powerslave - Powerslave (hard not to pick Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner as another incredible track)
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Only The Good Die Young
Virtual IX - The Clansman (divisive I know!)
Brave New World - Out of the Silent Planet
The Final Frontier - The Talisman
Just too many haha
