I remember him playing with a group called John's Children, I had the single" Desdemona", but since gave it away to a true Bolan fan.
still have "Just What You Want – Just What You'll Get" / "But She's Mine" on a demo disc big A printed on label.

I was a teenage fan of Marc Bolan and T.Rex.
I had Bolan Boogie and the Slider, initially, plus a free Sun newspaper album of some of his early stuff.
I also bought Tanx which is a very underrated album.
Then we hit mainstream Gloria Jones tosh and though I picked up Zinc Alloy and Dandy In The Underworld, I can tolerate neither for very long.
So yes, at his peak, excellent, though lyrically, much was utter tosh and he is not the great poet some seem to rate him as.

I'm reading Tony Visconti's autobiography at the moment. I loved Bolan, but Visconti paints him as not a very nice individual.
Noddy Holder similarly painted him as someone who thought he was special and he ignored them on TOTP filming.Fortunately for Slade, they kicked his chart ass so hard, his eyes must have watered and Slade remain very under-rated.
Similar story with the band who he just employed rather than recognised as T.Rex and Tony Visconti was practically the 5th member, also unacknowledged and he made Bolan's albums sound the way they did.
Bolan did not like his slide from being a short-lived Prince of Pop and his drug-taking didn't help - he must be one of the few people who put weight on.
Nor did his mate's success - Bowie was great at reinventing himself and Elton John was proving evergreen, which began to make Bolan look a bit small in the great scheme of things.
Love Drive-In Saturday, BTW, one of my favourite Bowie songs.
