My clubbing days are long gone and I have lost touch with modern dance music but occasionally I hear something and love it and have no idea what genre it is today, to me this is trance but who knows

Anyway I love this Tinlicker stuff, track 3 at 12mins especially
https://youtu.be/UzbXJd0r7dY

Can you recommend me some similar bands

TIA

Some of the Anjunabeats stuff would be similar to what you noted at 12 mins in your video, OP.

ETA: definitely saving this, it's excellent!

Also from Above & Beyond, but maybe it's a bit more mellow.

Otherwise, if you're not already on it, try DI.FM, many different channels to try for EDM.
I bought a 2 year subscription (so ad free), and it's constantly playing in the background somewhere.

Maybe Paul Kalkbrenner. Sky and Sand is amazing, the whole album is excellent.

The buildup from 10 mins in to 12 mins in sounded a lot like gareth emery, concrete angel.

Thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming

Never understood the EDM moniker, surely all dance music is electronic! But is that what I should be searching for though to find similar style ?

EDM seems to have unfortunate connotations of US scene and David Guetta type pop dance

A bit different to the set you had in your original post but recommended the station centreforce 88.3 to loads of people and made a lot of converts, well worth a listen.

Not If your my age. I remember when dance music usually meant ballroom or Latin American. Other types of dance are available!

Love a bit of Bicep but that’s much more mellow electronics IMHO, at least the recent album I have is

Tend to listen to radio 1 dance here as background work from home music and whilst there is a lot of repetition, it will introduce you to a whole bunch of stuff that is similar to the top link. In particular the pete tong essential stuff will get you there.

I’m particularly enjoying Camelphat at the moment.

https://youtu.be/kUkvW_KZsJ4 for the BBC R1 print works set which is rather good

Ah, after cars, this kind of music is my hobby :-)

Try Anjunadeep - more progressive, less commercial (but still quite corporate). EDM is just what happened when the Americans commercialised everything.

Seek out sets from these DJs:

Quivver (absolute class), Sasha (LNOE shows monthly), John Digweed (Bunker and Transitions), Anthony Pappa, Dave Seaman, John 00 Fleming, Guy J, Nick Warren, Framewerk, Frankie Wah, Yotto.

Most of these guys have been playing for 20 - 30 years (the last three are more recent) but are still developing and putting out better music than ever. These are some of the big names, and may be a bit obvious but if you get hold of their sets from Mixcloud or Soundcloud, you can go down a load of rabbit holes and pick up on a load of artists and labels from there.

Really like that Camelphat

Think I confused people by posting the whole set which included some more mellow beats.

This is the song I was particularly referring to, which to my ears sounds like “trance”

Thanks all, plenty to explore

Cloudstuff - what genre would you attach to the song I linked? Good to hear Sasha and Digweed, Warren and Seaman are still going.

Renaissance and Northern Exposure was my era of clubbing.

I don’t get DnB at all and my live dance experience is limited to Shangri-La at Glastonbury every year where today’s dance music has got harder and less tuneful / uplifting.

With the notable exception of Carl Cox doing a 4 hour set on Sunday afternoon at The Glades, that was a highlight

Interesting question - I think the genres are completely messed up now. Maybe it's a US / beatport problem but the names have become really mangled. Organic house for example - wtf?

Also 'melodic house' - ok, I can picture that, click on a tune though and it's practically nosebleed techno. Huh?

I'm not really sure how you'd classify that tune as I'm out of touch with the genres - progressive house, elements of progressive trance - but that's in 'old money'.

Renaissance and Northern Exposure are my era too - the best music, in my mind, still has the same people at the heart of it. All the new talent in that style gravitates towards the 'masters' :-)
