Never ever heard of him until i looked up the music from the current Mcmillan advert on the TV, and a few years ago he had 'recomposed' by The Four Season by Vivaldi.

Whenever the ad came on the TV i kept thinking that i should look out the piece, and being an absolute hater of classical music it dragged me down the rabbit hole to make me seek out a bit more and the piece they used was called Spring 1.

Am i getting old? Yep and i don't care that it has taken this long for me to find it.

Max Richter ( which is nothing really like the original and will more than likely be dismissed by the purists).

Thing is, this will make me hunt down more, and potentially classical music will have gained a fan.

Over and out.

Speaking as someone who has had the misfortune of performing some of ‘his’ works I’m in two minds about it.

Vivaldi knew what he was doing. He didn’t need to be re-composed. Richter’s versions are fine for background music, but really don’t work as performance pieces.

However, if it gets more people into classical music, then I’m all for it.

If you’re interested in finding out what classical music you like, start by looking at what classical music has been used in films and television. A lot of it you may have thought was written for the film but is fact centuries old.

Another interesting rework of the Four Seasons is "The Electric V" by Thomas Wilbrandt

His version is an electroacoustic reworking. Also features the late Simon Jeffes of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

Chances are you will have heard "On the nature of Daylight" - its been used in several big films ("Shutter Island", "Arrival") and TV shows, and its stunning:

He did the soundtrack of TV series The Leftovers:

and the Christian Bale western "Hostiles":

and the Ewan Mcgregor apocalyptic movie "Perfect Sense" where this played over the absolutely heartbreaking final scene:

"Infra 5" is a piece ive liked for ages, didnt know anything about it, but heard an interview with him recently where he said it was about the 7/7 underground bombings, and the increasing layers of piercing strings represent the panic of the aftermath and the emergency vehicles

I can't claim to know much of classical music but Max Richter is certainly someone who's music I enjoy listening to.

Clint Mansell, in particular for his work on the movie Requiem for a Dream is also a personal favourite (& an excellent if not harrowing film)
Full song

Probably my personal favourite version from the film. Summer overture.

Maxence Cyrin has also produced a beautiful version of Where is my mind? by the Pixies
