Best British Songwriters
Discussion
On Wednesday evening I was treated to a fantastic, intimate acoustic gig at a small, local theatre by Graham Gouldman. I hadn't realised the depth of his huge back-catalogue of songs recorded by 10cc and other artists. He is a true master-craftsman of songwriting, beautiful melodies and clever lyrics. I came to the conclusion that he must be one of Britain's best songwriters along with Lennon/McCartney and possibly Glenn Tilbrook/Chris Difford.

Certainly, The Beatles songwriting was way ahead of the curve at the time (as an example, the first verse of "Penny Lane" starts in the key of Bmaj then quickly includes a Bm chord and a G#dim7 chord!!!)
As a unit, Gilmour / Waters / Wright / Mason (Pink Floyd) wrote some belters.
Not to mention Freddie / Brian / John / Roger of Queen fame
