acoustic guitar for beginner

Im looking for a acoustic guitar as a present for someone learning to play again after a long time. We've ordered a Martin Smith model and the finish is a little disappointing to be honest.

Could anyone recommend a good value all round model?

just bought my daughter a 3/4 size fender sondor... lovely bit of kit and very cheap relative to the quality of the instrument
