Just playing Motorhead Under Cover for the first time tonight - I somehow missed it until now..
I've been a fan of Garage, Inc since its release 20-odd years ago and for a long time I've considered the 3 tracks of Metallica playing Motorhead as the definition of the heaviest of pure heavy metal.

Now I'm not so sure!

Vote and discuss, please smile

How is this even a question? Motörhead all the way.

I think the issue with this comparison is the production, the Metallica cover is produced by Bob Cock so it’s been engineered to within an inch of its life, it majors too much on guitars and drums like any Metallica release of the era. Lemmy, being the bassist, obviously opted for a more balanced sound, and the track was produced by Bob Kulick and Bruce Bouillet who just have a different style to Cock.

Only the songs that were recorded especially for the album, basically Side One. The Motörhead covers were recorded live while Metallica rehearsed for Lemmy's 50th birthday party, with no involvement from your favourite producer...

I wouldn't exactly call that cover overproduced either, there's no double tracked guitars, and one of them fks up the guitar riff at the start of the third verse...

TBH I'd much rather listen to Metallica playing Metallica or Motorhead playing Motorhead!

The heaviest, and best, cover on Garage Inc is It's Electric. But yeah, the answer is Motorhead. Incidentally I've seen Metallica live three times and every time the only song off Garage Inc they played was the Bob Seger cover Turn the Page.
