Blues/Rock events in the UK?
Discussion
Thinking of taking my Dad to see Joe Bonamassa at the Royal Albert Hall this year, but not sure what it'll be like in a big arena like that. I guess people on here will have seen him so would be happy to hear what the experience was like.
He's actually seen Joe a couple of times, but is a bit of a fan boy so would be more than happy to see him again.
But for something a bit different, are there any similar artists doing the rounds in the UK? what about blues evenings/events where there might be a bit more variety?
Gotta be a bit quick on Joe at the Royal Albert, not many seats left! Suppose Cardiff wouldn't be a bad choice either mind.

Saw Bonamassa at Bournemouth BIC 3 years ago, and they (his band are all impressive musicians in their own right - including the legend that is Reese Rynans) were brilliant. Ticket prices have increased somewhat for his upcoming tour, but you'll still get good value. If you/your Dad are into guitars, as well as guitarists, then a JB show is always good as he brings out some almost priceless vintage guitars and lets them breathe through his vintage valve amps...
For alternative ideas; some literal 'friends of Joe', and all great guitar players, are also touring the UK this year; Eric Gales (next month!), Joanne Shaw Taylor (April) and Samantha Fish (autumn). If your Dad likes big Joe then he'd probably enjoy any of them - and you could probably get tickets for ALL 3 for the price of one JB ticket...

Always felt JB was a bit too expensive for me. his latest prices at the RAH are pretty hefty - probably one of the most expensive mainstream rocks artists to see right now.
RAH is an OK venue but the experience can vary depending on where you sit - i think the best place is the front stalls to the side and they £211 each.

Amazing, thanks! Will check them out. Yeah price is a bit steep, it’s £94 for the nosebleeds in RAH. Which is why I thought about his Cardiff show instead. Will take about the same time to get there and the hotels are cheaper. Tickets are a little cheaper but I reckon you’d get a bit better seat for the money. For alternative ideas; some literal 'friends of Joe', and all great guitar players, are also touring the UK this year; Eric Gales (next month!), Joanne Shaw Taylor (April) and Samantha Fish (autumn). Tickets for JB are scary price.
Had ticket to see JST over two year ago in Glasgow, of course it was postponed and rearranged three times before cancelled all together. Nearest venue now is Sunderland, nearly 6 hours away. Was rather irritating to see her daily posts on FB about posh gigs in the US over the last few months. Had to block her for 30 days eventually...

RAH obviously has a lot of cachet but at the end of the day, you’re there for the music. Having never been I don’t know whether, being an old historic venue, whether it’s got all the usual old venue things like horribly cramped seats and seating arrangements that aren’t great for modern use cases.RAH is an OK venue but the experience can vary depending on where you sit - i think the best place is the front stalls to the side and they £211 each.
Again don’t know whether a motor point arena is any better or worse but all the events I’ve been to at places like that have been excellent in terms of enjoying the music.
I saw Gilmour at the RAH and I have seen a few orchestras
No doubt being at the RAH does add something - especially if it is your first time.
I was right near the front for Gilmour and it was loud as hell.
You should get good sound quality for JB which is obviously important. The downside I suspect is that views from a more standard square shape arena will be better for more people overall so if that is your concer then mayeb go elsewhere
The views right at the top and back are quite far away. But I am unsure how big the Cardiff arena is to compare.

Oh nice. Seems like it's free as well, something extra we can do. I did find Eric Gales playing at Nottingham (which is our doorstep) so that might be worth a squirt. Standing only though, which might be an issue with his knee replacement.
And just come across Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram. He seems pretty bloody good and he's only 23 or something wild! Only playing 2 venues in the UK though.

Does anyone know roughly how long the JB shows last? I’ve read they’re about 2 hours but it depends…
Say RAH, the show is listed as starting at half 7. So when are we likely to be finished? It is done around 10 we’d be about probably to get back to st Pancras for a train home, then don’t need to worry about hotels.

Tedeschi Trucks Band are touring the UK this year. I'm going to the Manchester gig and have wanted to see them live for a long time, but they rarely tour outside the US. Have a look on YouTube for some of their live footage, if that's your cup of tea.
I'll have to keep an eye out for that, they are a superb band.MikeT66 said:

I've seen a few post recently of bands who still haven't been paid for their 2020 appearances at these guy's events.https://hrhblues.com/

Never paid to go any of them but been to many as a "winner" who just pays booking fees.
