As the OP , I first heard Jealous Guy by Roxy Music ,had no idea it was a Lennon tune .

Don't know how long before I found out , think I prefer the RM version too .

Because the Night - Patti Smith - I've never heard the Bruce Springsteen version, and indeed I don't know if he recorded it himself.

He never did - he came up with the tune and the title but couldn't do anything with it and passed it on to Patti.

Surprising he didn't know or surprising he prefers RM's version?

Quite a few Nirvana songs. At the time I hadn't heard Bowie's version of "Man who sold the world" or "Where did you sleep last night!.

In a similar vein, I seem to recall "Kiss Kiss" by Holly Valance was originally sung by someone else in a different language, Turkish perhaps.

I know Prince wrote Manic Monday, under the pseudonym Christopher, but did he actually record a version? I think it was written specifically for The Bangles

Didn't Bowie give that song away before he recorded it himself? And is it still classified as a cover version even though you wrote the original? confused
