Anyone do this? A lot of the time I feel really self conscious practicing (guitar and vocals) in my house. Not that my wife minds, but I feel self conscious singing in full voice. Not always, but I've noticed it more and more in recent years. Especially as we don't really get on with the neighbours. I'm perfectly happy to make a fool of myself in front of a pub full of strangers. Guitar always sounds a bit sad on distortion but fairly quiet too.

I'm in a band (at the moment it's just 4 blokes jamming some covers for fun) and we use pirate studios. I'm thinking of just spending the 40 quid now and then and just renting a studio on my Tod and just going at it. Like a musical version of one of those rage rooms smile anyone else do that?

Sort of, but we have our own room, so I can go down anytime, crank up a full stack and let rip.

I know a lot of drummers do this (for obvious reasons) not something I need to do but I've have no problem doing it. Once you are in the room no-one knows it's just you anyway.

I did this when the rest of my band couldn't make a practice. It was properly satisfying top turn my guitar up obnoxiously loud and play whatever I wanted.

For awhile, then my ears started to hurt!

As a one off ace, bit not a regular thing for me.

When I was in a band and we had our own studio I cold never be arsed to head down as I would be playing loudly each week anyway.

My sax teacher had a sound-proof wooden box (bit like a sauna without the heater) built in his spare room for this reason. Meant he could relax when practicing without worrying about the noise bothering the neighbours. Over time, probably cheaper than a studio.
