Fly. High. Sky.

I reckon those three words in some form must be one of the most frequently used in song writing.

I decided to try and find out who got there first and find the earliest released song that combined the words "fly", "high" and "sky," in some form, in its lyrics.

Unfortunately, I almost immediately reached the limits of my music knowledge and it's proving really difficult to search for, so I thought the PH music people might do better. hehe

The earliest I have found so far is Marvin Gaye's song Flyin’ High which features the lyric: Flying high in the friendly sky

That's only 1971 though, and I'm convinced there must be songs from the 1960s at least.

Can anyone beat that?

Amen Corner. “High in the sky “ the lyrics do actually contain “we’ll fly high in the sky”

1968

Edited to add. It’s a bit like using “morning light” . . Cliche?

Yeah, it's the combination of all three that is so common.

Wow. I assumed it came into use with the weed smoking culture so never expected to go back that far laugh

That's got to be it, surely.
