Probably not the best wording for the title but I couldn’t think of a better way to put it.

What is the best song performed by a fictional band in a film?

I specifically don’t mean things written for musicals, more “That thing you do” from the film That Thing You Do or “Scotty doesn’t know” from EuroTrip.

Nowhere Fast in Streets Of Fire? Or does that come under the "no musicals" rule?

I’ll have to draw the line with Wikipedia’s description which for that film is “neo-noir rock musical”

Cantina Band's no-name song?

Fair enough, in context, it is a song being played by a band at a concert, it's not the musical "burst into song as part of the scene" kind of deal.

(Edit - in reference to Streets of Fire)

Fair enough re. Cantina.

How about Falling & Flying by Jeff Bridges from The Crazy Heart - great tune & I think specifically written/performed for the film & then released as a single?

Black Sheep by The Clash At Demonhead (in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.)

I don't think this counts unless Tenacious D in the film are a fictional version of themselves
Kickapoo by Tenacious D, Meat Loaf and Dio (from Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny)

Both films maybe also count as 'a musical'

Fire saga has some "for the film" songs that are surprisingly close to the euro vision real life sound.

Not an original song but perhaps the best arrangement of it and by a fictional band - man of constant sorrow by the soggy bottom boys in o brother where art thou
