I heard this being discussed on Times Radio today... Always hated the damn things myself!
Interestingly, their music editor said that in about 5 years CD's will do the same.
I don't want them to become "niche", as they've rarely been cheaper to buy than now which suits me fine...!

Got to agree it's a bit strange, but good strange!
My 16yo daughter is into the mix tape thing, so I got her this for £50 on eBay last Xmas..

..A few of her mates did the same, and they make and share tapes, just like back in the day. Very, very cool in my view. Only issue is cost of the tapes!
Sometimes, I let her play them on this.

I have become a regular watcher of 'techmoan' on YouTube, who is somewhat a cassette fan! He regularly tests some old school high quality players, directly captured to the video and it's quite surprising just how good they can sound! His regular point is that there are no half decent players now produced and a cheap player really can sound quite poor...

Is there any point producing a decent one once CDs arrived? Pre-rec tapes were always so poor you were better off buying the CD and making your own copy on a decent quality tape, and once minidisks MP3 etc took over on-the-go requirements there's no logical arguement left. There's been a few demented fruitloops that have been making the the cassette=analogue=better than CD ever since which proves nothing more than perception is reality I guess.
This isn’t exactly new news..!
Cassette only releases have been happening for a while and there’s a super documentary from 2016 that covers it: https://www.cassettefilm.com/
I have stacks of tapes from way back - live recordings, mix tapes, etc. In fact, when the house refurb is finished and a room is dedicated to film and music, I’m going to have my Yamaha tape deck serviced so i can listen again.

Ridiculous. Tapes sound awful.
Nonsense, let battle commence!
Yes of course they do, but for f

My kids love using my Walkman's, they're interesting, offensive, not perfect, go wrong, break down, run out of battery, have to be rewound, you have to actually think about what music you want to listen to - all making the experience better- IMO
Any how, as you where.

Sort of agree with you, although I would never go back Any how, as you where.

I'm from the "CD" generation, but remember copying my favourite albums to tape so I could listen on my Walkman. Great for long car journeys, etc. Even at uni in the late 90's/early 2000's I'd take it everywhere.
Yes, by todays standards the tech is crap, but from a musical enjoyment perspective it made you listen to and appreciate the whole album, rather than listening to a selective playlist.
I knew I'd regret tossing that twin tape deck stereo component a couple of years ago. It sat in a cupboard for ten years; I couldn't give it away.
Cassettes really were a pain - I remember growing up, the roadsides would be covered in miles of shimmering tape where car stereos had chewed them up and they'd be thrown out the window.

I saw just that on Monday on the outskirts of Halstead in Essex - very odd to see now. Cassettes really were a pain - I remember growing up, the roadsides would be covered in miles of shimmering tape where car stereos had chewed them up and they'd be thrown out the window.
