(re) learning the piano - tips?
Discussion
After a few decades of not playing (previously got to grade 4) I'm trying to get back into playing the piano.
I can't commit to regular lessons or a teacher, but I'm able to find 30-45 minutes most days. I don't really like learning from apps.
At the moment I'm kind of starting from scratch, breaking my practice into simpler scales, working in detail on a few focussed pieces, and then going through a wider range of pieces (in simpler key signatures) to brush up on sight reading (which is where I was always weak). Am I missing anything?
Any hints of tips? Particularly interested in resources to help sight reading, basic (to intermediate?)
Thanks

There are no real short cuts to improving sight reading. It's one of those things you just have to do and fluency will come over time.
Download some of the ABRSM grade 3 and 4 sight reading past tests and take it from there.
I know you say you don't have time for lessons but that's the best way to quickly improve.

Thanks for the tips about the sight reading downloads - much appreciated. I know that taking lessons is the best way, but I can't make anything like regular timeslots at the moment with work travel However, I have been managing to fit 30 - 60 minutes in most days when I'm at home and I can feel things slowly coming back together
