RIP Toby Keith
Discussion
Shocked to wake up to this morning - it was known he was having a tough time with cancer but in his last few interviews despite looking quite unwell, he seemed to be saying he was getting the better of it.

And for those of you going "who?".... Toby Keith was a country music legend for over 25 years.
From "classic" country like the oh so 90s Should've Been a Cowboy:

and the duet with Willie Nelson, Beer For My Horses:

To a string of humour-tinted "bro country" smash hits like I Love This Bar:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fulz4ytZ54
and Red Solo Cup:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKZqGJONH68
Keith was also no stranger to courting controversy - as a patriot and strong supporter of the military, his smash hit Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue written in the wake of 9/11 polarised opinion and cause a long-standing personal rift with the uber-liberal Dixie Chicks

Gutted. Probably largely unheard of on this side of the pond but I came across his music back in 2003 and really took to it.
Yes there's a lot of "good ole boy" patriotic US stuff but there's real passion there and I find it quite moving. Some excellent music videos too with a good dose of humour thrown in.
I'll certainly be raising a glass of bourbon to Mr Keith tonight. Thank you for the music.

Sad news. I only came across him when on honeymoon and our neighbors were an american couple we made friends with who were big country fans. The husband is a Navy SEAL and we keep in contact and I know from him that Toby was a massive supporter of the military and he made a big effort to meet a lot of troops.
I was also a fan of The Ranch sitcom on Netflix and they always made reference to Red Solo Cup.

As a lover and player of country music since the early 1970s I recognised Toby Keith as the real deal along with Johnny, Merle, Don, Willie, Waylon & Buck and many others.
Here's a song he wrote after a round of golf with Clint Eastwood, he asked what kept him young and the answer I Don't Let The Old Man In
