Having spent 50+ years listening to a wide variety of music I hadn't come across him in any way until last week when a SA guy I was talking with told me the story of Sugar Man.
The documentary from a few years back is a nice watch, that's probably how most people have heard of him outside SA. It was a bit of a hit so he's not exactly a secret, but hardly mainstream famous.
