Arguably one of the top 5 strats ever.

There’s nothing there to suggest they’re up for grabs. I think that page is just displaying all his instruments.

Surprised Dónal is letting go - he's been pretty good about lending it out every now and then over the years, but I never thought he'd actually sell it.

Maybe the Knopfler auction got the cogs turning in his head about striking while the iron is hot.

I reckon Bonamassa will have his cold, hard eyes on the Strat.

I was just about to post the same but I'm not sure if he does celebrity guitars like this. From what I understand, he doesn't particularly like paying the celebrity tax on guitars like this one. I reckon that'll go to a serious collector to be stored in a vault somewhere. It's a shame as I'd like to see it gigged. At least JB plays his serious stock out and about from time to time. Besides, I reckon he'll be saving up for Bernie Marsden's 'The Beast' once it comes to market. I know Bernie was a good friend of Joe's so he'd probably be up for owning his old LP.

Rory and that guitar both mean a lot to me.

Back in 1988, I'd just started learning the play the guitar from my step-brother (Spanish classical). One day, rifling through my step-Dad's record collection, I stumbled across this:-

Track #1 : Blister On The Moon

I'm then no longer interested in playing Malaguena or Romanza' I want to play what Rory's playing.

A few years ago, I bought a tee with that album cover on the front.

Understandable considering the incredible amount of money Knopflers' gear realised.

I've got that album and saw Taste live.

And I expect that security, storage and insurance were a bit of a problem.
Much as you might like to, you can hardly hang a guitar like that on your sitting room wall.

What good taste you have.
It's my favourite of all time and down as one of my funeral songs.

I see what you did there! I never get tired of watching that video - would have loved to have seen him live.

Have a few of his albums in flac format and surprisingly a lot of his recordings are of really good quality even though they are pretty old.

So the strat sold today, at Bonhams auction for £700,000 (with fees that came up to £889,400).

And best of all it's going to be donated to the Irish National Museum thumbup

For some reason I feel oddly conflicted at the price. On the one hand I'm glad it made good money because Rory is undoubtedly worth it.

On the other hand I can't help but wonder if he'd have thought it a bit of a palaver if he could see it happening. Though full of sentimental value for it, he seemed to consider it more a tool of his trade. I wonder how he'd feel about it sitting in a museum, given he was quite a retiring sort of chap who was more interested in just playing for people and sharing his music than being a rockstar.

Then again given it spent a few days in a ditch at one point maybe it has earned its retirement. hehe

A fitting resting place for such a well used and loved instrument. I think most guitar players would include it the same hushed tones as:-

EVH's Kramer "Frankenstrat"
Gilmour's Black Strat
Willie Nelson's "Trigger"
Page's '59 Les Paul
Hank's "Fiesta Red" Strat

That's an amount of "fees" , respect to Bonhams, I thought the licensed crooks at Master Ticket were good.
