Just heard the sad news that the powerhouse drummer from The Jam has passed away.

This band was a highlight in my youth in so many ways

I've cleaned up a few live recordings of theirs over the last year - what a great live band they were. Never cared for them at the time but I was very young then. He was a very powerful and sharp drummer - The Jam wouldn't have sounded like The Jam with anyone else. RIP.

Really sad news, was a big fan of The Jam in my youth and saw them a number of times.

Ricks style fitted them perfectly

Sad news, I have a few Jam songs on my playlist that I listen to everyday, the songs still sound fresh today.

RIP Rick.

I was too young to see them before the split (I was 10 in 1982) but grew up with their music and own the full back catalogue. I was lucky enough to see Rick back behind the kit with Bruce Foxton in From The Jam, he looked like he was really loving playing again.

May he rest in peace, one part of a magnificent trio.

Met him once, he had just done a show with Mike Brewer!

Lovely guy, no airs or graces and seemingly oblivious of his cultural impact.

Terrific drummer and a unique style, The Jam wouldn’t have progressed without him.

This is saddening, bad news. 69, almost no age...

Great drummer in a wonderful band.

RIP Rick, you've been part of the soundtrack of my youth, thanks for your inspiration.
