After booking my Led Zep IMAX tickets, I had to buy into another music movie, also in IMAX :
The story goes that Pink Floyd archive staff found film rolls which contained the original 35mm film,

Some short samples already viewable on YT :

Pics and sound feel amazing, top restoration work, looking forward to that.

I saw it last night, and it looked good. It's the first time I've seen it all (I've seen clips before), and never realised it's part performance of the Pompeii set, plus studio clips from them recording DSotM, so it's a perfect snapshot of the transition period.

I've always considered Nick Mason to be an OK drummer, but this highlights just how good he is/was.

Note : for the faint of heart, this contains outrageous amounts of facial hair and complaints about apple pie hehe

Yup bought this on VHS in my teens and throughly enjoyed it on IMAX last night. Took a pf loving pal who hadnt seen it before. Dont think it was what he expected tbh !

Thoughts..
Its truly a snapshot of music history- the end of the end of Barrettesq long form psychedelic songs mixed with footage of the band working on new Gilmore inspired, multi chord album stuff.

Fascinating for musicians, producers and film buffs to spot old vintage kit, techniques and styling.

Id forgotten how focused on Nick Mason the film is. Really shows that despite the historic focus on DG & RW, the everything they do hangs off NM drumming. RW hardly gets any airtime.

The full screen closeups of NM, DG & RW talking are framkky amazing on IMAX. You can see every hair, zit, scar...

The circling camerawork around the drumkit is mesmerisingly hypnotic.

In summary- if you like 70s music, documantary film styles and PF its a must. Its available rescanned up to 4k on yt for free too.

It must have been pretty amazing to play in such a setting... Gilmour's 2016 show there was the first public performance in the colosseum since 79AD (the eruption of Vesuvius).

Which RW are you referring to? The grumpy bassist or the gentle soul who did all the lovely keyboard instrumentals?

See this in the early 80s at a late night showing at the cinema in Cambridge, it was on second after Genesis Second’s Out.
Great musicians but pretentious overload.

Was at IMAX today, very good quality, liked both the Pompeii scenery / performance
and the Dark Side recording of overdubs and playing around on modern ( now vintage ) synthesizer stuff.
Liked the way they told about "enhancing substances" with a small "wink wink" grin.
Was quite a contrast to viewing it in a rainy 16mm copy in our local "program cinema" late late show,
either this or the combo of "Crystal Voyager" and "Fantastic Planet", mosty under influence of beer & resin.
