I'm sure this isn't going to be popular but here goes.
Watched the 2hr+ documentary on Sky last night. Very interesting stuff but......god the music was dire. I was genuinely amazed to learn that all 4 of them were highly accomplished musicians before Led Zep, yet managed to produce such turgid, self indulgent tripe.
Thank god for the fast forward button, allowing me to ignore the music and just listen to them talking. At one point they played a 15 min live version of Dazed and Confused. I tell you, without the fast forward button, I would have been opening up my wrists.
Even great stuff like Whole Lotta Love, with that fabulous riff that Top of The Pops used for decades, was completely ruined by Jimmy Page's experimental nonsense.
Yes guys, we know you're fabulous musicians, but no need to have to demonstrate it with ridiculous solos in every effing track.
I think if Led Zep did Whole Lotta Love, in the style of The Cure's Boys Don't Cry, got on stage, bashed it out in 2min30, and f
ked off again, it would be so much better.
You look at punk a few years later, musicians with a fraction of the talent, who bashed out songs in under 3 mins, managed to produce for more exciting music.
My verdict, Led Zep, such a waste of talent.

Have you heard the Yardbirds version of Dazed & Confused? That also has the jammy bit in the middle. The theme tune to totp wasn't done by LZ.
A number of bands at that time were experimenting with turgid, longer live versions of short album tracks, Floyd Cream, Iron Butterfly, The Who, Mountain, Humble Pie filled an entire side of a LP with one track.It also pleased the fans, instead of a 40 minute set by their fave band doing all the hits they got a two hour set.

My verdict, having listened to pretty much all of Zep's output, and played what I can of Page's guitar lines over the last 30-odd years is that you're full of st.If you are a group of talented musicians, you explore all genres from rock to blues to folk to jazz which is what LZ did. If, as a group, you have the ability to compose something like "Ten Years Gone" (for example) then you aren't going to waste your time writing a 3 minute thrash using 3 cowboy chords.
I've been to around thirty concerts since 1970 including (Page/Plant, The Firm etc) visited around ten of their homes they have lived in over the years, including Bron yr aur cottage in Wales, and have a huge record and book collection.
However, I'm not one of those fans that thinks the sun shines out of Page and Plant's arses, many gigs have been under par, where Jimmy wanders off on one of his extended guitar solos.....
I did enjoy the recent film, it was interesting hearing John Bonham's thoughts on tape at that time,
