Very sad…. I think I’ve said on the song intros thread his haunted bass and squires sparkle at the beginning of I wanna be adored for me is almost perfection.

I had a pint with him once upon a time after a primal scream gig, he was DJ’ing and I requested a tune (can’t remember for the life of me what it was now) but his eyes lit up and were best friends for 20 minutes.

Very sad and only 63. As above, being born in the 70's The Stone Roses was one of the bands that got me properly into music.
I will make sure the full length version of I Am The Resurrection is played in the car tonight.

The Roses were the band that changed the teenage me from liking music to being obsessed by it. Their debut still remains one of my all time favourite albums and always will be. First ‘big’ band I saw live. Grateful to Mani for being part of my musical awakening, and one of my teenage heroes.

Far too young. Him and Reni were the soul of the Stone Roses and one of the best rhythm sections I've ever heard. Brilliant with the Primals too. A Manc to his core-you could never be in doubt where he was from even when not talking!

fk’s bks that is shocking and sad news. Their debut was a seminal album that formed a major part of the soundtrack to my university life. Saw them live in ‘89 - great gig. Feel very sorry for his boys with both parents gone. RIP Mani.

Sad news. After not playing them for a while, earlier this week I listened to both Stone Roses albums. They still sound amazing.

I'm shocked and devastated by this. My all time favourite bass guitarist and made me want to take up bass. A bit too young first time round even though Fool's Gold was a catchy tune but properly got into them with Second Coming and became obsessed by them.

Wholeheartedly agree. My favourite track on SC is Daybreak. Yes, it's just a jam session but Mani & Reni were having such a good time. Don't Stop.

Thats really sad news. So many really good tunes and even the second album which I know was not as good had some cracking songs on it.
Fools Gold and I am the resurrection are so well known but nearly every tune is brilliant

Man, that baseline from I Wanna Be Adored still has me moving at 51, the way it did when I first heard it in 1989.

One of my favourites is the baseline on Pearl bd.

There was just so much feel in what he did.

Seminal stuff.

I’ve re-watched the made of stone documentary tonight what comes through from mani is his pure love of playing the bass and of being in a band, with his mates.

The cheeky looks to the rest of the band (especially Reni) he and Reni were the groove that really pushed the roses and made the sound.

A fantastic character, always played with a smile on his face and always seemed to be a genuinely good bloke. The world is a bit worse for not having Gary “Mani” Mounfield in it.
