3/4 sized child guitar

My 7 year old is taking up guitar lessons, we need a 3/4 sized guitar.

I shall be looking second hand, are there any names to look for

Yamaha, Admira and Cordoba would be good shouts.

Really though, just buy on condition and don't spend any more than you need to.

Nylon strung MUCH easier to play than steel strung.

Steel strings often make people give up due to pain (and sometimes blood).

ETA... Having read posts below.. yes, electric also much, much easier, but then you might well have drums and electric bass in you spare room down the line

My lad started with a 3/4 acoustic when getting music at school but when going to a guitar teacher he was told to go electric full size. Electric is easier to play, needs less pressure on the strings etc.

I've got a Fender Acoustic & a Yamaha electric and while the acoustic is easier to just pick up, the pressure on the strings of the electric makes it a lot less painful on the fingers. Same pain in the ears unfortunately.

Grandson started with an 'Argos special' small acoustic and found it difficult. I tried it and even after playing guitars for 60-odd years, found it awkward.

As he persevered, I thought I would buy him an electric for Christmas so I went to the local music shop and tried a few 3/4 electrics. Of the 4 that I tried, the best 'out of the box' was the Gear4Music strat copy. Nice action, slim neck and nice tone with or without amplification.

He really got the hang of it and, at the age of 11, is now teaching Grandad the entire back-catalogue of Oasis, as well as being the star performer at the school end-of-term concert!
