This movie looks good, but were they a real band or has eveything been created to make it look like they were a real band? It's hard to tell these days.

I desperately want to see this film. Yes they were/are a real band and have released albums, although I have never heard anything by them.

It threw me that the drummer is Robb Reiner, when the director of Spinal Tap was Rob Reiner.

My mate went to "the anvil experience" at an indie cinema in London last year. Said he felt really guilty for having a bit of a chuckle when Lips is getting emotional, then when the film finished, the band started playing in the balcony!

Also, even my mum loves the film!

I saw Anvil support Saxon and IMHO they sucked, I'm sorry if it annoys people but the random band from Germany before them were beter. Can't comment on the film never seen it.

Oh, if I'd only listened to the CD's TBH I think i'd think OK, but not spectacular 80's metal.
It's more a case of how they come across in the film. Really nice guys still chasing the rock n' roll dream. I think "Sucked" is going a bit far, but then I've not seen them live.

Yeah I know it seemed harsh but I found them very boring, so did a lot of people unfortunetly for Anvil.

Thats the thing isn't it?

I enjoyed the film, and was heartened by their commitment.

But throughout, I couldn't help thinking that they failed to make it because actually they weren't that good.

I have since seen this film, and i did enjoy it. IMHO Anvil are most definitely not the greatest metal band in the world, so perhaps their fate is a fair testimony to their skill.

A mate of mine saw them support Saxon, and thought they were great. I've not heard them or seen the movie, must do!

I can't believe I missed this thread up to now smile

I've seen Anvil a few times - my favourite being in Dublin with Black Sabbath ('83 I think).

A great band that don't take themselves seriously.

And the movies excellent too .... kinda comes across like a real-life Spinal Tap (in some aspects).
