Rap ultimately spawned from jazz & blues in the same way rock, and just about all other forms of modern music have done - just because you don't like it, does not mean it does not have any musical significance.

I'm not a fan of rap myself btw

Yeh but I quite like jazz and blues. In fact I quite often tell people to forget who a piece of music is by and just listen to it, rather than assuming that becasue its by an artist in a genre they dont like they wont like it.

And I often do this myself, however I make an exception for rap and related music-(spoken rather than sung stuff thats like poetry and sounds like it should rhyme but the artist cant pronounce the words correctly so it all sounds so forced --- the streets are a good example) -because I think the pain I would have to go through to find something I like would not be worth the reward.

And it clearly does have musical significance I cant deny that, although the term musical here is somewhat open to debate.
