Some real epic tracks

As I remember growing up as a boy in the 60s/70s, the sixties were very turbulent times - there were the race riots going on across the USA with the major racial equality changes happening, plus anyone who raised their head high enough above the parapets risked getting assassinated, notably Martin Luther King. On the back of this the Vietnam war was building and failing with all controversy that surrounded it.

Somewhere in there the world went from being black & white to being loud, garish and colourful, music also changed and artists used their songs to try to spread their word, none more so than Soul music as it sang about poverty, struggle and Peace.

Some good ones by the Supremes there. There were a lot of artists covering other tunes, some could pull it off. One of those was Donnie Elbert with his unique Falceto voice - he took a Supremes early 60s hit and added his own style.

Nice one Good to see the thread take a few turns, as it would being 'Soul'. Maybe the the sax takes us into a more Jazzy area of soul, certainly brilliant chilling music. Heard a lot of this jazzy/funk/soul at the weekend strolling around Camden Market but there was so much going on I didn't pick up any names, must do, when I'm down there next.

There was a good Soul Train dance video on youtube featuring MFSB - TSOP with some cool dancers, unfortunately its gone missing.

Not too many white artists made it onto Soul Train, however Elton was one of a few that did. Strangely, I hear Bowie did as well?
