Damn being at work. Oh and not having sky at home anyway... but a big fan, one of the most underrated bands ever. River Euphrates, Gouge Away, Holiday Song, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Here comes your man, just simply superb songs, simply superb...I say they're something like the Velvet Underground of the late 80's and 90's.
What really annoys me (not really) is that mentioning them seems to get some people going "ooo, get you, into your ultra obscure bands." Er...not really...at least not for my and my peers..and anyone who read MM, NME or Sounds etc...
Was speaking to some drummer bloke, into "alternative" bands and that...27...never heard of the Pixies...he was s

FETA: I realise the latter para kind of negates the point of the second one but I was quite taken aback that he'd never heard of them. Nirvana, yes, Pixies, no. There wasn't that long between them, in fact they overlapped by a good few years.

TIME FOR MY TRUMP CARD........i saw them at manchester g mex on the bossa nova tour in 89/90.can`t remember which as i was only about 14 or 15 at the time.around the same time i saw red hot chili peppers on the positive mental octopus tour(mothers milk album).manchester apollo that was

Even though they can fill out 4 nights at Brixton Academy, and headline Reading festival, a few years ago, they never did reach the heights of Nirvana. And so there are many people who are oblivious to the mark they've made.

I'm minded of the fact that as the years go by the opportunity to see these bands is diminishing at an alarming rate.
I saw them at The Duchess of York in Leeds (a grotty pub in the city centre for those who don't know), it was some time in the early 90s. I made a point of seeing them at every opportunity during that decade and have lost count of the number of gigs.
I guess I'm a kinda old skool (nearly 25 years and counting) Pixies fan
P.S. Was it at the City Hall and do you think it was sold out?
