Im in a rock n roll band
Discussion
It would have been a travesty if John Bonham hadnt won best drummer and Led Zep best band on BBC2 "im in a rock n roll band".Also pleased Jimi Hendrix got best guitarist, slash is no mean player but when in the company of Jimi Hendrix & Jimmy Paige imo he was outgunned.
Up late because I just finished watching Led Zep in concert which followed the above programme.Am I correct in thinking the drummer in the last couple of tracks was John Bonham.Certainly looked & sounded like him.

Bonzo is still the best - and always will be
Agreed

Spent the weekend re listening to a mixture of their stuff and no doubt about it he was a stunning rock drummer but also with a superb sense of the groove.Just listen to the licks in "fool in the rain".A sad loss.
Just watching/listening to the Led Zep live programme that was on after.
Anyone that doesn't get LZ or Stairway should watch it - the guitar solo was just epic.
I wonder if some 'young' people don't get it because they havn't seen real/proper band live?
A few years ago my son went to Download, I had played Paraniod a few times but when he heard it live, mid concert, he texted me to say "Paranoid live stunning"!
Now he, sort of, understand my music choice!
Live music is just different.

I saw Plant & Page together at Wembley Arena in the late 90s. Of course there was no Bonham and JPJ had not been invited along, but it was still an awesome show and 95% of the show was Zeppelin songs. Next best thing to seeing them at their pomp and I was far too young for that at the time!

No Tom Morello in the greatest guitarists though? Technically, he is one of the best ever. He just doesn't write indulgent solo rubbbish.
He does make some wonderfully strange noises with his guitar, something other guitarists would reach to the effects pedal for, but like you say, to be known as a great you have to stand out from the band, not work as an equal part of it. Dunno if that's really a good thing but it's what makes a leg end it seems.Amazing to watch him play though

Led Zepp i only got into a few years ago, didn't know anything outside of Stairway and Black Dog, then downloaded a discography one night and been hooked since. Listened to the albums then about 4 years later, finally caught some live footage.
The presence, the occasion, the sheer energy and drama they created. Wonderful.
Never have i heard a band work breakdowns in songs so well.
Just amazing and truly deserving of the title.
