Show us your instruments!
Discussion
I have been enjoying the "show us your guitar" thread and thought it might be nice to have one for non-guitarists!
So, to kick off:
1. 1985 Alexander Model 103 F/Bb full double in gold brass, detachable bell.

My main hooter - a bit "old school" and not terribly fashionable these days but makes a gorgeous mellow sound. Very good example, and have played some fairly poor ones! Was rebuilt with a new bell and mouthpipe by Paxman a few years back and plays beautifully - great tuning and no duff notes. Totally handbuilt, beautiful craftsmanship. Will never sell, feels like part of me when I play it.
2. 1964 Paxman pre-Model 40 Bb(A+)/f alto in yellow brass, detachable bell.

Bought recently - great for reliability in exposed/high stuff. Has some real history to it, one of the first descant horn prototypes built by Paxman. Played professionally throughout its life, alto side very well balanced and doesn't sound like a trumpet when you swap over to it! Large bore means that you can still make a racket when required
3. Boosey & Co. single F piston horn, unlacquered.

Interesting instrument really - probably played in an army band in the early 1900s. A true "french" horn (narrow bore) unlike the modern "german" design in use now. Quite a challenge to play and don't really get the chance to play in anger much, but nice to have!
4. early 80s Lidl F/Bb full double, yellow brass, fixed bell.

Actually the instrument I started on many years ago. Has had a lot of abuse and was actually in several pieces for a while! Recently rebuilt. Tuning questionable but all the notes are on it. Was going to use it for teaching but found that the duff intonation actually affected my playing when going to another horn, and it's actually quite difficult to play, so don't really use it now.
So go on, what you got?

I see you have the horn!!
I don't much care for the French horn, I lurve jazz trumpet. The thing about those more complex brass instruments is the workmanship. To me that beats an eleventy squillion pound Strad hands down.
I'll have to take some piccies of my Violin. My Guitars aren't worth taking pictures of. Not by PH standards anyhow.
No - it's not a Strad. Not bad, well made, well used (not by me).

Just a different kind of craftmanship, violin making is probably more of a black art than brass instrument making. There's no real right/wrong way to do it, a lot of it is about feel. Anybody who plays an instrument to a standard knows how you bond with it and no two (even of the same model) are ever the same.
BTW, there are some excellent jazz horn players around - don't pigeon hole the instrument!

Many people like that Getz Sax which I like, but I prefer the trumpet.
There are a few instruments like that for me. Other real favorites are the Oboe, and the Marimba.

Not that it's at all on topic, but this was the sort of thing I was thinking about with the Marimba.

The Marimba is a really difficult instrument to get to sound tight. The only one I could find on Youtube is here, but it's more of a demo than a song.

Various version of the same thing with varying sound quality;

I don't have relevant pics so will steal some off the net...

Korg SP-300. (The black one.) (Previous owner is in Jamie Oliver's band, if you like that kind of info.)

Xiao. Blow it, make nice noises. If you can't, use it in garden to prop plants up.

(A good quality copy/homage/lookalike/fake.)

Windows Tablet.

Here's my studio where I record vocals, use Ableton to produce and DJ. I've also got a couple of guitars and an electric piano, but they're fairly non-descript.
The studio is in a 1900 era farmbuilding in my yard, it's freezing in the winter and roasting in the summer. It's also quite spooky. The first time I was DJing, a bat flew down from the rafters, circled the room and then went back to the rafters!
So, what I have out here: Powerful PC, AKG Mic & TBone mic screen, mixer & Pioneer CDJ1000 MK3 decks. Fairly basic set up but it's homely!!
