Favourite 80's hits...............
Discussion
Thinking a little obscure, rather than the type to appear on MoS 80's Part X...........
Live it up - Mental as anything (just You Tube'd it and couldnt believe quite how awful the vid was!)
Camouflage - Stan Ridgway
Amytville (House on the hill) - Lovebug Starski

I had a similar discussion on Facebook recently. Same rules applied, basically stuff we hadn't heard since it left the charts.
Hollywood Beyond - What's the colour of money http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2PcaABUzWY
Robbie Nevil (looking a bit camp) - Dominoes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlucGdeT37E
Inevitably we always end up back at this one..

I lived in a pub in the 80's and this was played on the jukebox a lot. Fiction Factory - Feels Like Heaven

Top of the world - The Cross

Most people know C'est la vie, Dominoes was his 2nd single. I had the album so I'm probably more familiar with the song as it didn't get the same airplay as the previous single. I'm 40 now and they used to play Dominoes in one of the nightclubs I frequented back in '88..
Ahh,nightclubs, I remember them...............
how about this one, I dont think I heard since it came out.

I was a big fan of the Kane Gang and their version of Respect Yourself. My first single.
I can see this thread turning into a nerdy 'I can do more obscure than you', so I'll stick to some genuine favourites.
Love Cats by the Cure
Kayleigh by Marillion
Girls on Film by Duran Duran
Tinder by Hipsway
Belfast Child by Simple Minds
Pride by U2
We've Got the Power by Win

Dear All,
mildly unknown:
Love and Money: Strange Kind of Love , Hallelujah Man + Jocelyn Square all from the Strange Kind of Love album - sort of Scottish Soul/Jazz meets Steeley Dan production values [fast show] mmm, smoooth. [/fast show]
terribly tartaned:
King: Love & Pride - ska tinged indie pop featuring eponymous VJ Paul King
country rock:
Steve Earle: I ain't Ever Satisfied - mega catchy stuff from the (now less) addled Texan
super video:
Westworld: Sonic Boom Boy - punky pop vid starts with cliche'd pan from band performing song to camera shooting the video but when you get to see the viewfinder they are now a cartoon, neat.
big sound:
Adventures: Broken Land - Big Country meets U2 Celtic rock, whatever happened to them?
british rap:
Smiley culture: Cockney Translation & Police Officer - if Mike (streets) Skinner had a sense of humour
I could go on...
Jet

Depending on how old you are, you'll either not know this / think it's better than the original / think it's crap and the original can't be bettered.....
Far Corporation - Stairway to heaven - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzDEmkfb6VI
I reckon it's better..

Despite everything (heavily gated snare / synthesised bass / dreadful dancing / even worse "hairdos"), I still really like this (Obsession by Animotion)

Others from the 80's that really flick my switch:-
Talk Talk - Life's What You Make It
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXsmyLtpxlA
The Cocteau Twins - Pearly Dew Drops
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdEHbdjyCJ4
And a couple of Gary Numan ditties: We Are Glass & I Die You Die
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBSWdkmUvJI&fea...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cksIn_mK0Co&fea...
Honourable mention to most of Marillion's work during the mid to late 80's as well
