Best Swansong Albums
Discussion
Following on from the "Best Debut Albums", how about great albums that were also the last before the band split up/artist died etc.? A bit harder as most bands start with a bang and die with a whimper.
Kyuss - And the Circus Leaves Town
The Doors - L.A. Woman
Lawnmower Deth - Billy
Any more?

Bon Scott ACDC Highway To Hell 1980
Shall I just close the thread now; as this wins hands down Bon Scott ACDC Highway To Hell 1980

It's just a shame that 'Ace of Spades' was not not Eddies last album; otherwise that would be a very close second.
TBH I much prefer the earlier ACDC with Mr Scott.

A contender; John Sykes's axe's fret-freneticism is like some wild, black blade that escaped from Melniboné.Tbf, although I can no longer listen to Highway to Hell, for two decades following the original release, it towered over most things, like an Isengard of Rock. (Sorry.)
Never Say Die with Oswaldo's Sabbath was also a cracker whilst my personal hero, the late, great Elf, Ronnie Dio, gave several sublime years with Iommi & Co and we saw a ballistic brace that went out with Mob Rules, producing heavy rock of a calibre usually reserved for slain Norsemen in Asgard. Live Evil, the live follow up, doesn't count due to the acrimony surrounding the studio mixing.
For the Moshisti who never made the transition from denim to leather (or indeed, leather 'neath denim) there's much to be said for RJD's final outing with Blackmore c/o 1978's magnum opus, Long Live Rock n Roll - with a sound quality best left for the 'Crown' mono casstte player in your 1975 Hillman Avenger - it nonetheless triumphed with Gates of Babylon and conceivably the dream team of hard rockin' leviathans - Blackmore/Dio/Powell - I will ask Get Carter to remix it for me and then split the royalties.

I see your Derek & The Dominoes and raise you

An actually kind of planned swansong album.
Great call.
An actually kind of planned swansong album.
WRT Derek & The Dominos, this is one of the best live albums ever (IMO):

It may not count as a swansong album though, as I think it was a retrospective release.
It still fooking rocks, though
