We had a good idea at work today - Your top 20 of all time..
Discussion
Sat in the office at work and the subject got onto music, and what each of us has liked over the years.
What became apparent was that due to the range of ages and tastes in the office, everyone had completely different favourites, some of which had never even been heard of by others.
So we decided to make a 'Top 20 mixtape' for each other (or thanks to technology, burning an MP3 CD).
Each person is simply required to decide upon their 20 most liked songs of all time thus far.
30+ seemed too many and 10 or under might not quite cover it, so 20 it was!
I'm working on mine at the moment, and it's harder than you think! You also begin to realise that your top 20 is quite a personal thing and gives a good insight into who you are!
What are your top 20 favourites?

Couldn't possible even attempt this.
As soon as I got a decent stab at 20 on paper, there'd be a 21st or a 22nd that I'd remember and then have to make changes and justifications. Then the next day, I'd be in a different mood and listening to something else that would have to go on the list. The next day would see a reversal in the order, which would inevitably mean something else would have to drop off in order to change it.
The best I can do is say that the following songs would always be somewhere on the list:
Can't Always Get What You Want - Rolling Stones
Helter Skelter - Beatles (I know it's not one of their stronger tracks, but I love it)
Words - Guillemots
Common People - Pulp (best song of the 1990s)
Desert Song - Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros
Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime - Korgis (or the Beck version)
Find the Colour - Feeder
I Became A Prostitute - The Twilight Sad
Juxtapozed with You - Super Furry Animals
Here Comes the Fear - Doves
Atmosphere - Joy Division
Running Down a Dream - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Perserverance - Terrorvision.
Man of the World - Fleetwood Mac
Mercy Street - Peter Gabriel
Bimbo in a Limo - Uncle Devil Show
Which is 15 songs and gives me room to add in the blues stuff I've missed out (especially early ZZ Top), I can't believe I've not put in a single song by Eels, James, Marillion, Editors, early Bloc Party, TV on the Radio, Death Cab for Cutie, Tim Minchin, Vampire Weekend, Simple Minds, Portishead, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Leonard Cohen, Kate Bush, Interpol, Elbow (Some Days Like These), Cream, Hendrix, any of the hundreds of old ska stuff I've got, or anything else I've entirely overlooked because I haven't got my iPod here!.

I refer you to the common practice on here of showing off obscure tastes in music, referred to here a few posts down by TheEndhttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
On one hand it does throw up some some good never heard before stuff, on the other it can get a bit juvenile at times.

likewise, anyone with a similar taste in music to me [indie/northern soul/50s/60s] would realise my 20 aren't that obscure at all.
