I've got pretty eclectic tastes and like most things from Thrash Metal to Dub to Motown to Opera but I just don't like...

New R'N'B - Beyonce, Leona et al. FFS just shut up, you're encouraging X Factor wannabes with your boring vocal gymnastics.

Folk - It's all a bit Arran jumper, wellies and pipes for me. Maybe it's just the image.

Reggae - I like a bit of Dub, I like Calypso and Soca too but Reggae, especially Bob Marley, leaves me cold.

Blues - Tricky one this, I quite like bluesy rock but one miserable guy with a guitar doesn't do it for me.

So what don't you like and why?

But I clearly don't mind children practising the violin.

Actually, I should just put a blanket ban on any kind of noise a child or teenager makes - vocal, instrument, doors...

R n B...give over(specifically US/UK chart fodder that is now called RnB)

Hardcore...180bpm earache.

"Singer/songwriters"...it's the title/pigeon hole I can't stand. Pretentious crap....

"haircut" indie bands...ie anything R1's Nick Grimshaw likes.

Anything containing a Saxaphone solo...ever.

Thrash...unlistenable.

Music in lifts/supermarkets/on hold.

I'd agree broadly with this although I don't really like the way r'n'b has been misappropriated as per the OP's point. There's not much I won't listen to though, I can appreciate musical skill in most genres.

1. I've come to the conclusion recently that I pretty much don't like anything that wasn't written and recorded by a band *.

2. I also can't listen to anything that's more trance/techno than Fat of the Land era Prodigy.

3. Folk.

  • Naturally like any rule there are a couple of exceptions to this, Bjork comes to mind and I also like some hip hop and modern R&B.

Jaaaaazzzz...

I'm all for virtuouso displays of musical ability, but provided it has context and relevance. For the same reason I can't listen to Yngwie Malmsteen or DragonforceI can't listen to jazz. Sorry jazzists.
