I've removed the rock sliders from my Grand Cherokee. They looked like they have been down with the Titanic for a 100 years !
Had to grind and cut most of the bolts to get them off.

Anyway, I used a wire brush attachment in my angle grinder and got 90% of the rust and caked on dirt off them They will need blasting to get the remainder off and into the inaccessible parts of the mounting brackets.

However once cleaned up what is the best way to paint/protect them ? I had a anti roll bar powder coated before and that finish didn't seem to last long.
These bars were colour coded to look nice on the jeep, but are exposed to all the crap off the road.

Should I just paint them with Hammerite ?

Are they tubular? Is the rust inside? My Defender ones look good a couple of years after belt sanding to bare metal, etch primer then POR-15 topped with Raptor Bed Liner paint.

Sandblast them... Zinc prime... Powdercoat in your colour of choice.

Yes they are, and the tubes have stood up very well. Its the mounting plates at each end that seemed to corrode the worst.

I would paint with whatever metal paint you have on hand or is cheap. If you're using them, they're only going to get scraped up again and need touching up.

I ended up cleaning off the worse of the "rust/crap/dirt" then had them blasted and powder coated satin black.
The guy I used had a job lot of black so was cheaper than asking to match the original silver.
Theory being if they scrap up, I can just use smooth hammerite to paint over.
