Had a problem with my 400 ranger cutting out when hot etc so thought it must be fuel ish so bought a new carb.

easy to replace.....but when I started it up I saw fuel leaking from the drain under the float bowl at the bottom...a little spigot. To one side is a screw so pinched it up a bit more but it was tight already....still effing leaked.

Took the screw out and it has a tapered end that obvs closes off the drain, but it doesnt grrrrrrr.

Its a brand new carb so shouldnt be stripped etc, the screw is fine, no burrs or scratches etc, cleaned it, rubbed a bit with some w and d...still leaked.

Thoughts apart from but maybe just glueing the sodden thing.

That tapered screw needs a seat to seal against. New carb probably has a bit of crap or a moulding flaw in that seat. Shine a torch in the hole - you’ll likely see a scratch or a tiny piece of flash.

Quick fix: get a cotton bud, stick a tiny smear of fine valve grinding paste on it, spin it in the hole by hand to lap the screw to the seat. Clean it out thoroughly after.

Proper fix: return the carb as defective. But if you can’t be bothered, a dab of fuel resistant sealant on the taper works too. Don’t use normal glue.

I fit was only leaking when the engine was off, would that suggest float needle valve not sealing correctly ?
