Do these ships undergo periodical "mot's"? Also, could the captain be negligent for positioning the ship at the angles where the waves would cause additional stresses?

Yes, annually and a much more detailed one every 5 years. This ship is only 5 years old and had just passed.

That is not that bad for weather and the ship should have been well able to withstand that,
