Going to start racing next year, decided on the production BMW championship and have bought a car.

I was thinking about doing the plum pudding event on boxing day just wondering if anyone on here has entered before? and would you recommend it for a novice in a relatively slow car?

The thought of lots of faster machinery on track did make me wonder if it was such a good idea

Could be a good idea, but bear in mind a couple of points

1- It's mainly a bike meeting, so they have "top" billing.

2- 26th Dec - Weather wise could be very tricky(notwithstanding point 1 above, a couple of years back when it was too snowy/icy for the bikes, the cars had the day to themselves) Could be tricky for a novice - Although you would have the rest of the winter to rebuild it !!!

Not sure I'd recommend it as a first attempt at racing- The conditions will be slippy whether it's wet or not, and Mallory is unforgiving in places- a few feet wide out of Gerrards and you're in the wall. Plus there's the speed differential issue of the different cars and different drivers.

All I can say is in the 2nd race it is a reverse grid, so if you finish near the back in race one you would be up near the front for race 2 with all the faster traffic coming up to pass you. As long as you keep your eyes on your mirrors and don't move about too much it should not be a problem. Although I'm sure if you prefer not to be at the front, you can ask the officials to start at the back for race 2.
It can be slippy....It was -9 last year and the actual Tarmac of the track was clear of snow, there was plenty of salt down and no ice on the track itself...I went out on soft slicks in both races.

It looks like fun, and I considered it once, but then I went to watch.

The disparity of speeds was too much, and the sports car race is usually spoiled by someone turning up with something thats about 5 seconds a lap quicker than the average car in the field. It all seemed a bit chaotic on a short circuit...

But it is tremendous fun - and not too late to get your entry in for the bargain fee of just £100 for practice and two races. The form is at tinyurl.com/plumpud2011

Heres the results, shamelessly copy and pasted from elsewhere
Wish I had been there to try and give my great mate, Nick Williamson, a run for his money, we have had some great battles over the years :'0) Also Phil House, Tim Watson and a few others have given me a hard time in the normally very slippy conditions :0)
I spoke to Nick tonight on the phone and he was dissapointed I was not there too.
I will be back next year and so will Nick....He wants to get me back for beating him at his local, Thruxton, back in August in the 2nd Classic Thunder Saloon Race, in The Bullet :'0)
