in a bid to save weight I"ve removed the heater and ancills from a tintop i plan to race next year , now this will be fine in good conditions but wondering other than refitting the heater what is recommended to keep the screen clear when the rain comes and the screen mists up ?

I"ve seen a few 12v plug in demisting devices and this was recommended on another site http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/Electric_Demist...

anyone tried it or similar or other recomendations ?

thanks in advance.

It should be possible to connect the air intake for the heater to the ducts that send hot air to the inside of the windscreen, even if the heater has gone. Some wide-bore ducting, so that cold air blows instead of hot - the airflow will keep the windscreen clear almost as well.
Then use an antimist spray or wipe.

I don't know what car you have but there are some OK price aftermarket electrically heated windscreens around [spotted in DT catalogue].

Yeah, I just fitted a heated screen to my Elise race car.

Wasn't bothered about taking the heater out to save weight but found I couldn't get the air ducted up to drmist the screen after I did the central seat conversion so got a heated screen and saved 3.5kg in the process.

The screen was only about £60 more that a standard one so worth looking into if they do one to fit your car.

either a heated screen or try to get hold of a westfield heater. i use a westfield heater thats plumbed in, weighs nothing compared to the old porsche unit.

In my Falcon it has a retro fitted heated front screen, works really well, in my fiesta I have a glove & long arms, ok as long as you dont get in the car soaking wet

I read on a saxo forum that the heater complete with pipework weighed around 12kg but tbh when I butchered it out the car i would be surprised if its 5kg!

was thinking of using antifog,(diluted washing up liguid) we use it on the visors when we karting and it helps in the wet races.

Andy will you be out in the Fiesta this year ?

Jeff ( Binnis mate tried to buy your fiesta at croft ! )

We use a couple of coats of Rain-X anti-mist, seems to work fine.

Bob Heath anti mist viisor spray works really well. use it in a ventilated space though as its a bit strong when you first apply it. should work for windscreens too.

Light smear of washing up liquid - buff to a very light haze.
