You missed a trick there. Should have done this as a 'thankyou to my sponsors 'insert sponsor names here' for making my seasons racing possible this year :P then you could have got them a mention already :P

My title sponsor is getting a great deal as he has a lot of contacts and can help me find more sponsors.

It is more a marketing partnership agreement than a all out sponsor agreement.

I met the guy as he gave me a lift home after a curry organised by a friend to get some local businesses together. I was drunk and chatting crap about racing he just instantly saw the potential. Really very lucky(I nearly just walked home!!)

The other 3 sponsors are a friends business, my dads consultancy (I found him some work so he gave me 2 days pay enough for a set of tyres), and a contact from a previous job.

I also have a deal with the local mazda dealership who store the car for me when we are doing sponsor events and supply me with parts at trade. (which has already come in handy after my wing mirror made a bid for freedom) All they get in return is the car in the showroom (which is also of value to the other sponsors) and 1 technical evening for invited guests where we talk about the car. They don't get anything on the car but will get a mention in the press.

The top sponsor gets the whole car painted, the others get A4 sized stickers and a mention in any press releases I do. Now it becomes circular, I am keeping it local so as more people come on board it starts to become a networking opportunity for local businesses.

So no secret answer!! Like I said before 1) just ask everyone you can 2) network like crazy. 3) find ways to add value.

A while ago you said to forget about stickers on cars and offer sponsers something more, so what is the potential for your sponsor apart from advertising and a free ticket?

Thanks

Good effort, cuffed to bits for you! More often than not it's about talking to people - that's the best way I used to network when I was self employed and where most of my work came from!

Good luck with the racing.

It is entirely up to them, I have allocated some money for transporting the car to the press launch of the car in their livery. If they want the car to make any other appearances they have to pay for it.

What they are going to do with the car is entirely up to them. They probably won't ever come to a race.

The lesser sponsors only get the sticker and a ticket but they get all the press exposure related to what the big sponsor does with the car.

Also remember they sponsor the car not me. The car is the asset. I'm just a person who happens to race it.

It's really not that black and white.

Just make sure you look after them not like some little prick that won a BBC Top Gear sponsor deal and raced with us years ago in Modprods, he took the money, came out just once and was never seen again. Its that sort of thing thatgives the sport a bad name to sponsors.

Launch of the car? Sounds snazzy, I take it thats just the sponser taking some pics out side their office with you leaning on the side of the car, or is that at a Ma5da championship day?

Try and explain then, I'm sure Ill understand.biggrin

Seems like its just the stickers and advertising, like you said their sponsering the car not you or an image they want to be associated with. I can see a company like Lynx say, wanting to sponser a car for the sake of being associated with racing, but surely its just advertising at club level?

I'm a little confused from you posts on a thread of mine a while ago...

Bertrum said:
This has been discussed at length before. In short you should

1) Forget about the fact it's on TV. Pretty irrelevant unless it's something like BTCC
2) Forget about stickers on the car. Common mistake but that is not all you should be selling
3) Think outside the box.

{...}

you need to think about from a different perspective. Problem is all people say who want sponsorship is you can have x sticker here that will be seen by x amount of people.

It doesn't mean anything unless your redbull or something. Think about it as a potential business venture for the sponsor, find ways to give them back something that they would struggle to organise or do themselves.
Thanks

Ahh you missed my point...or I explained it badly.

They are using the car as a marketing tool, tag line of faster recruitment. They are using it in 3 ways, social media, shows, networking.

The most powerful being social media they are targeting young people to be on the books the car can help with this. By posting blogs, uploading video's providing updates etc. Linking to mine and the teams social media outlets.

Shows is as it says shows inclusive of local press stories etc. Car launch I have no idea what they have planned, should be interesting.

Networking wise it is now in their interest to find me more sponsors as this will help form a group platform in which to do business sharing a common interest. This again attracts more sponsors as they want to be involved. If you see what I mean.

The fact the car is stickered up is incidental but they already have 2 vehicles and a third will compliment that.

If i'm honest the more I write the more I think I should have charged!!

Does that help??

Remember, none of the above is my idea!! I didn't go with a proposal. But is so obvious really.

First race Sat ARRRRRRGGHHHHHHH!!

I see, it seems as if the social media side of things is rather important.

Thanks for expanding.

Good luck

Well Done!

Now the hard work starts, keeping your sponsors. lol

Remember when you arrive for the first round with sponsors on your car, they will be a target for other drivers to try and get money from them. Make sure you do every last thing you have promised and make sure they know you have done it as well. Having things signed off is good for this. I've always made sure my sponsors are kept up to date with what I'm doing in writing, with a mid season review, to make sure they are happy.

Good luck with your season. Here is a good place to keep us up to date with what you are up to.

Check the paperwork in your championship regs VERY carefully. Powers that be are taking a close interest in this type of thing, image rights etc...
