Hi All,

I am currently trying to sort out a front cage for my Lotus Elise as the championship regs say I need a 6 point.

I have a Custom Cages T45 4 point fitted and have acquired a Custom Cages front section that someone got but decided not to use.

I need to figure out the best way to mate the two together.

The front section has these male tapered sections with threaded holes in the middle and I was wondering if anyone knew if they were an off the shelf part and I could just buy the female parts to weld to the main hoop.

Before any suggests speaking to Custom Cages, I have tried on many occasions and in my opinion they are the worst company in the world to deal with, ever!

Some pictures of the current situation below.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Dan

It looks like the rear hoop should have a tapered socket and hole to accomodate the front section ends and then bolt from the rear of the hoop. (would think these are available to weld in)
Personally i would cut flush and weld the front section in place unless there is any reason why you would want to remove it in the future.
We have a bolted in cage (front section) but have since added to it so now its welded and more secure for it imo.
I've seen plenty of Elise Trophy cars running only the rear hoop and petit bar (last season) so i assume the regs have changed ?
Or if you have upgraded the rear stays you wouldnt even need the petit bar !
Personally i wouldnt feel happy without a full cage in place, and preferably one that is higher than the drivers head inc helmet! rolleyes

Agree with Toy.
The Blue Book may help. Section K has several Drawings of 'approved' bolted joints for ROPS.
See pages 175-179.

Cheers fellas. Happy for it to be welded but the problem is, that's where it sits. It's an inch short of the main hoop so I'm guessing I need some kind of female taper piece welded to the main hoop to join up with the front section.

Any ideas where I might find such a thing?

The car is not for the Elise Trophy, hence the need for a 6 point cage.

Cheers

Cheers Miles,

I know most of the helpful folks on SELOC personally but thanks anyway.

Its not really a Lotus question as such, more a roll cage fabrication one.

Anyway, I think I have found a solution. Will be welded together when I'm finished.

I'm sure you must be able to get these weld in fittings somewhere but noone seems to know where.

Cheers
