E 141 was/is an E type, which was built (I believe) by Albert Betts, he of the two tone green Mk1 Jaguar.
One of the early owners (1974) is a very old friend in more ways than one. For his 90th birthday last year I organised a party at Brooklands. The current owner of the car kindly lent it to me for the party and now I want to return the kindness by helping him with its history.
It has chassis 850066 (1961)which makes it very early in the models production. It is believed that it gas been raced in one form or other for most of its life. the DVLA is being its usual bloody minded self.
Does anybody have information or pictures?

It took a long time for a reply to this. 2011 is a little bit later than I was thinking about and was the year I borrowed it for Bill's 90th.
I have done a lot of research since I first posted and can fill in a lot of background, the real problem is there is not enough of it for what I want.
The car was built 29/06/1961 and is pictured ALREADY wearing E141 outside Bill Lyons' office together with about 50 other E's, presumeably demonstrators ready for delivery to the distributors, on or about the 14 July 1961. The distributor being Sanderson and Holmes of Derby, now long gone. The car was raced early in its' life, first recorded driver being Brian Spicer who bent it severely at Snet, after which Albert rebuilt it as a Modsports car. John Quick owned (or used)it in 1972. Bill de Selincourt got it from or through John Quick and sold it to Reg Woodcock who had a nasty one in 1978 at Silverstone. The next owner was a well known restorer who eventually put the car back into its' current pristine condition and sold it to its' present owner.
Now we come to the hard bit. None of the local government departments involved in the licencing and registration of the car has kept any records (with the exception of Coventry and Warwicks but it wasn't registered in either of those two places). So where? E is a Staffordshire reg letter the whole sequence dating from 1905 swo a private purchase was made and any cancellation cards should have gone there but they have been thrown away by a Council who sole aim in life (try driving through the county) appears to be the persecution of motorists.
Derbyshire where S&H were based have a few records but incomplete and the DVLA is populated by unhelpful jobsworths who are determined to squash any move to confirm the link between the registration number and the chassis number. Despite affidavits from all the previous owners mentioned with the exception of BS who is untraceable and JQ who had an accident with a ladder and can't remember owning the car, there is total disbelief in the honesty and memories of the three individuals concerned, the mantra "they may mistaken" is the blank answer as to why their testimony is not accepted. Yet these same yo-yos would accept, were it available, a tax disc, which if you think about, has no reference to chassis number on it. showing only make and registration mark.
So, if anybody knows more please, please PM me or post it here
