Daytona karting
Discussion
Buggered if I know which forum to put this in so it'll do in here!
Off to Daytona in MK for an evening karting next week and I was wondering whether it would be better to wear my own Nomex racesuit or the ones they provide?
As kart suit construction is different to race/rally suits are you even allowed to wear a Nomex one?
Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't bother wearing your race suit. I've worn my kart suit to that kind of thing before and i wouldn't even do that now. As previously stated it's nicer to wear your own lid and gloves (gloves especially as the ones they provide are terrible) but if you wear your own suit you are just marking yourself out. That's fine when you win, but when you end up in a dog of a kart and don't you're just leaving yourself open to a lot of ribbing.Off to Daytona in MK for an evening karting next week and I was wondering whether it would be better to wear my own Nomex racesuit or the ones they provide?

The guy at www.moderacewear.com told me that a Nomex race suit would rip to pieces if you were unfortunate enough to be thrown from or dragged along by a kart onto tarmac at 50 MPH
Also you would probably be the main target for all the F1 wannabees out there!!

Having been launched from a kart and down the tarmac at a higher speed than that in my CIK-FIA kart suit, I can tell you that they just melt! It makes little difference what you wear tbh. I had to pick out melted bits of suit from my wounds! Also you would probably be the main target for all the F1 wannabees out there!!

So no different from the cotton/Proban ones supplied by the kart company? Also you would probably be the main target for all the F1 wannabees out there!!
For long-circuit competition karting you have to wear bike leathers I believe.

Well my suit never gets used for driving, it's only ever in the silly seat of a rallycar but I get your point! I'll probably just go with their kit I guess.
