Might see you at Castle Combe on 16 Feb then, depending on whether I get called on to wield a stopwatch.
I'm aiming to do that one too
, although you only have to complete 8 out of 15 rounds, dropped scores comes into play and I need the experience............ plus its fun!!I was wielding a stopwatch at the last Maidstone and Mid Kent 'solo - learnt quite alot doing that.
I did this two years ago in my MX5. I think I even did enough events around the UK to qualify for the championship. Had loads of fun and it was a great car to do it in, even if the Saxo VTS's were tough to keep up with! Unfortunately a late season change to a Boxster finished my efforts there, I would love to have a go again if I had a small chuckable car!

Nowt wrong with a Boxster in AutoSolo. I won my first trophy in a Mondeo and got my first class win (<2000cc) in my wife's Clio (1.2 TCE). Neither are sporty and the Mondeo cannot be called small or chuckable!onomatopoeia said:

Wow! I'd ignore the previous Boxster incident - what are the chances of finding a tree on an airfield?! In all the years I did AutoSolo, I've only ever seen a puncture, the aforementioned Boxster bumper and a bit of cone rash. I lost a wheel once, but that had more to do with car maintenance than AutoSolo. I also blew an engine, but that was back when list 1B tyres were allowed and it was my first time running them ... with no baffles in the sump ... on a 150000 mile engine without checking the oil. I'd have no problem taking any well maintained car on an AutoSolo and I think I've competed in nearly every car I've owned over the years.
I was fine in the above, just winded and the assembled marshals and fellow competitors helped alot- I'm glad I wore my seatbelt.
(although it did slow me down a little on the next event run at the same venue) I did learn a valuable lesson..
'to finish first, first you have to finish!'
Still, I have lots of mini bits now
and got lots of mentions in the club magazine

I'm interested in doing this sort of thing in my mk1 MX5 that I use for track days, autosolos look like a lot of fun and a different driving challenge.
Does anyone know if there are there any autosolos regularly held in or near to London?
I've often thought about this sort of thing before, but I haven't been able to find much information so I've never taken it further.

Which side of London are you? Sevenoaks Motor club organise 2 (july and September) at North Weald Airfield as does another club in April.Does anyone know if there are there any autosolos regularly held in or near to London?

Farnborough Motor club organise 4 on MOD land through the year......... Hampshire way

Be careful though if its a track 'slag' - tyres in MSA list 1B aren't allowed!

I'm north London but fairly central so I think that North Weald would be quite good for me. I will look up Sevenoaks motor club. Farnborough doesn't look too bad for me either, considering I usually have to travel a fair way for track days anyway.
Thanks for the tip on tyres, I use road tyres on my car, so I should be fine there.

, it appears the guys at Knutsford DMC still braved the conditions and had a successful Autosolo, hopefully i'll be up to see them in the Autumn.
