Having dipped my toe in into Motorsport last year and booked three races this year I feel the need and like to support the hard working Marshals to see it from the otherside and interested in getting involved for a couple of events this year. Unfortunately I'm based in Devon now so limited to a couple of circuits Combe and Thruxton, is it a case of phoning the circuit?

TIA

The best place to start will be the BMMC's site: http://www.marshals.co.uk/smile

Your region is the "South West" and the person you want to contact is Chris Turrall with regards to starting out (http://www.marshals.co.uk/regions/south_west/committee.htm). You'll be put with experienced people as a trainee, just remember, the only stupid question is the one not asked!

(Or any one I ask)

And don't forget that you may include marshaling at one event in your signatures towards a full race licence!

Come to Castle Combe on 23rd March. It's the British Sprint Championship, so you'll see the fastest cars outside the British Grand Prix. Details on who to speak to on the Bristol Motor Club website. In general, you'll need to speak to the clubs organising the events, rather than the circuits themselves. The clubs rent the circuit for the day and provide all the marshals/officials/recovery, so the circuit don't get involved in the organisation aspect.

At most circuits BMMC offers "taster days", a good starting point as you'll be given a good insight into how a race meeting is run, including visits to the Med centre & race control.

There are other types of motorsport out there, especially down in Devon...

I know the South West Endurance Road Rally will be looking for all the help they can get. I wanted to compete but unfortunately due to car problems its not happening now. Its happening in March and heres a linky...

I did my first bit of marshalling at a 12 car night rally this year, I had a hoot even though I wasn't driving, also had a friendly cow in the field next to me to keep me company on the cold dark winters night biggrin

Have fun what ever you chose smile

There's Wiscombe hill near honiton who put on some great hill climbs and are generally looking for marshals, just got a letter from them for the 500 club meet on 11th may and the Woolbridge motor club on 28th April.

If you want to see some serious machinery then this is a great event.
