Dear Supporter,
We are writing to ask you to support us in our current application for planning permission to continue to hold 60 Race Days per annum here at Donington Park.
Our aim is to persuade as many supporters as possible to write to North West Leicestershire District Council to show the level of support we have. Here at Donington Park we are passionate about motor sport and racing and want to continue with our 60 racing days a year. After all racing did start here in 1931! However as you well know, motor racing up and down the UK is under increasing pressure - mainly due to the noise concerns of some neighbours. In the last few weeks you will no doubt have read about Mallory Park’s difficulties, and they remain under huge external pressure.
We have just submitted a planning application (in fact four applications) to allow us to continue to hold 60 Race Days per annum, all subject to various sensible noise controls.
At present we have permission to operate the 60 days for a 2 year trial period. Our main planning permission allows 40 days and we can run unsilenced vehicles on all 40. We firmly believe that the "60 Day" application is better for everyone locally, as it proposes that we halve the unsilenced days to 20 a year; and then have 20 restricted to 118dB(A) and lastly, 20 at 108dB(A, both levels to be properly static tested by Scrutineers before the day’s racing starts. This is what we are applying to make permanent. We are not proposing any changes to our Test Days or Track days.
As you will appreciate, it is really very important that as many people as possible write in to the Council, even if you don't actually race yourself – track day enthusiasts, spectators, traders, suite holders – whatever your reason for being at Donington Park at race weekends, now’s the time to ask for your help!
In kindly agreeing to help us, can we ask that you write in?
In these cases it is always best to compose your own letter (photocopied standard letters don't have the same effect).
We have set out below the address, planning permission application reference numbers and a bullet point list of the key points on which you could base your letter.
