Im currently researching building a Stock hatch rallycross car. I think im going to go for a Saxo VTR as my base as they can be picked up fairly cheap (unless someone has a reason this is a bad idea). The things im really struggling with are finding the right roll cage and somewhere to have it fitted I live in Suffolk and cant find anyone local who do this kind of work. I dont want to skimp on the cage but i also dont want to over spend and buy equipment i didnt need to. The other thing im struggling with is the regulations regarding the cage if i buy a 6 point weld in or bolt in cage does this automatically mean it will pass scrutineering or does the installer need to know the exact rules for the sport you intend to use the car for? Also im assuming i would deliver the car to whoever was going to fit the cage in a stripped out state so at what stage in the build should i have the cage fitted?

Sorry if this sounds a bit armature but its the first time ive ever done anything like this.

On top of this if anyone can offer advice on things that aren't written in rule books or regulations that will occur that maybe caught you out the first time that would be good too.

Thanks in advance.

A bolt in 6 point cage should be ok, http://www.safetydevices.com/motorsport/products/r... you can fit them yourself but there should be enough places nearby who have experience, google found www.westsuffolkracing.com

If it were me I wouldnt skimp on the safety stuff and opt for the extra door bars too

Would you not be best buying something already done?

Not a saxo but...

A suitable car + trailer + "spare" car for £3.5k

A quick change of suspension, away you go.

WOW how did i not find them with all my googling lately? lol, and i want to build the car myself i think half the fun of it is building it yourself and then at least that way you know all the little niggles from the start and not be surprised by.

I certainly don't want to skimp on safety so i am treating this as more important than the engine at this point.
